Relationships refer to the connections and interactions between people, specifically in this case between the captain and the crew. Relationships can be personal, professional, or social and vary in depth and complexity.

The relationship system between the captain and the various crew members on the spaceship is structured across several distinct levels, each representing a different stage of connection and intimacy:

  1. Outlander - Before a Character joins the crew, the captain is considered an "outlander" to them.
  2. Stranger
  3. Acquaintance
  4. Friend - At this relationship level, the player will get that characters key card, allowing them access to that characters bedroom. They will also get an eMail the following day with a gift.
  5. Good Friend
  6. Best Friend - At this relationship level the player will get a second eMail with a gift.
  7. Engaged
  8. Married

Friendship

To build a friendship with a character, the player should speak with the crew on a regular basis and gift them various gifts. Each crew member has their own distinct likes and dislikes, so the captain should get to know their crew to figure out what gifts that character might prefer. Both actions will increase the player's relationship with that particular crew member. If the player gives a super version of an item, they will get additional relationship points, over the normal version of that item. The value of the item is taken into consideration for how many friendship points the player gets. Generally speaking, the more valuable the item, the more relationship points the player will receive, even if that item is not considered a favorite item of that character they are gifting to.

As the relationships between the crew and their captain grow, the player will get some exclusive things only their crew can offer them.

Friendship does not decay.

Earning Friendship Points

When the player is gifting to a character, both the value of the item, and how much the character likes that particular item is taken into account. The player should add these two numbers together to get a base of how many friendship points they will receive for that item. For example, if the player gives a character a loved item valued at over 41 credits, they would earn a total of 12 friendship points (6 points for the value, 6 points for it being a loved gift). If they give that gift to the character on their birthday, they will get an additional +10 points, meaning that gift will provide the player with +22 friend points towards that character, that day.

For every friendship point earned, the player will get 1.5 crew morale experience.

Romance

The player must level up their relationship with a character, then they can gift the character a date invitation to go on a date with that character. Each character has three dates they can be taken on. The player can choose the location of the date, but the conversation the player has with the character will be the same regardless of where it takes place. After every date, the player gets a relationship bonus with that character.

There is not a "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" status, the player can take any romanceable character out on dates pre-marriage.

Marriage

To marry an NPC three criteria must be met:

  1. The player must be best friends with that character.
  2. The player must have the master bedroom in their captains quarters. (Machine shop upgrade: "Captain's master bedroom")
  3. The player must have gone on at least two dates with that character.

If the player has met all of the criteria, they can then gift the character of their choice an Engagement ring.png engagement ring to propose to them.

Divorce

There is no divorce. The player should choose wisely when picking a spouse.
