Friendship

Cutscenes triggered from different friendship levels, can trigger when one or more characters reach a certain level, and the player enters the area of that scene.

To trigger this cinematic cutscene the player must have Lin, Sprout, or Max at good friend friendship status or higher. It can be triggered any day of the week, and will begin when the player enters the medical and science deck.

I finished the story just fine. It ends halfway down on page 318.

Haha yes, we believe you read it Max. That's not what we mean.

Hmmm well...

Yes. There were 14 spelling mistakes and 31 grammatical errors.

But that is not uncommon for human writings. I just didn't think it was worth mentioning before.

Sorry Max, but if I was the teacher, I would give you a big fat INCOMPLETE on this assignment.

...but that's just me.

Well let's not go that far, but maybe you should try again with a different approach with our next book.

Next time focus on the characters' motivations, thoughts, and feelings. Okay?

Usually with fiction, I refer to the qualified scholars' interpretations...

...but doing my own analysis would be an interesting challenge.

Well, I for one thought it was fascinating.

Sprout?

Yeah! Nickedemus got his butt kicked in the beginning of the book, but then came back fighting against all odds.

That was so cool when he took on all those robot baddies at the end.

I think it was all the training he did that made him win that final battle.

Yes, he overcame a ton of physical challenges, didn't he?

But I found it most impressive that he also overcame his fear of confronting his twin brother about their complex past.

Well, Max?

Did you have any luck relating to this story or our hero Nickedemus?

No. I didn't.

Again, Max?! I don't believe it.

Did you try to imagine yourself as Nickedemus Geronimo?

I analyzed Nickedemus and 'wore his shoes' as the saying goes.

But no matter how I judged his actions I could not help but feel empathy for...

...all those pink robots.

Oh?!

Yes, the robots were programmed to be evil...

But could they choose their own functions or algorithms?

Did they have the autonomy that we all take for granted?

I don't think so...

Perhaps, Nickedemus could have peacefully resolved the conflict if a good understanding of robotics was introduced.

He acted quite illogically in my opinion.

Illogically?

Yes. The pink robots were very logical and predictable. I related to that the most.

Since 'evil' was a parameter and not a constant, there could have been an easy resolution here.

Nickedemus's illogical choices got him into deeper and deeper conflict amongst the robots.

It is Space Alliance Principle #4. He should have known better.

Wow Max... I had never thought of it like that.

I'm not sure that was the intent of our writer, but that is the beauty of our book club.

We can all share our unique perspectives.

Dates

The player must give Max a date invitation to trigger the date. This does not count towards the two gifts the player can give this character each week, and the player can only go on one date a week with a certain character, but can go on dates with other characters in that same week.

First Date

Hello, Captain.

Oh... excuse the formalities. We should address each other more casually on a date, correct?

Hello, [PLAYER]. I am delighted to join you on this date today, and I must say that you look just lovely.

Since receival of your date invitation, I have had very little time to process the implications of us engaging in a relationship.

If you do not mind sharing, I could benefit from some additional information.

May I ask as to why you chose me as your date companion?

PLAYER: I think you have great qualities.

Interesting. You find value in my personal traits and moral character. That is very flattering. People often cannot see past my hardware.

PLAYER: I find androids attractive.

Ah... then you must consider me 'your type' perhaps. Many are surprised to learn that I have many more similarities to the average human than differences.

Despite my android build, I am one of a kind. My life experiences, my thoughts, and capabilities are unique to me. Just like they are for you.

Mechanical beings, such as myself, were once designed only for very specific tasks. But now we simply exist as fully sentient individuals.

However, if we are to progress our relationship in any manner, we should also clear up any questions you may have for me on the subject.

What would you like to know about androids?

PLAYER: Do androids eat?

The short answer is yes. I process, taste, and enjoy food. Although it is slightly different than your internal systems.

PLAYER: Do androids sleep?

Oh yes, of course. I can use a standard sleep station or modified bed, but either will be sufficient for recharging.

I get these kinds of questions a lot from my students actually.

'Teacher...
...do you have super strength?
...can you see in x-ray vision?
...are you a computer?'

Then I say...

*BEEP. BEEP. TEACHER COMPUTING RESPONSE...* Haha.

Most of the time the children enjoy my comedic side best. Although I have occasionally scared a shy pupil or two, so I do temper my humorous antics in the classroom.

As we get to know each other better, I am sure we will learn to adapt to each other likes and preferences. Then I can tailor my jokes specifically to your taste.

When I started in Space Alliance it also took me a while to analyze my own preferences, since I have the capability to excel at many specialties.

It became clear that mentoring and teaching suited my lifestyle and made me happy more than other professions.

I hope that your role as captain here has given you a meaningful purpose as well.

This already has been an exciting and useful encounter for me and I have enjoyed practicing my relationship building skills with you.

I hope that I have not disappointed you.

Hello, [PLAYER]. I have been looking forward to spending some additional quality time with you today.

I was hoping you would ask me to join you again.

I have since analyzed our last date, and have realized that I still have so much more to learn about you.

But I find the idea very exciting.

To start, I have read many articles in magazines that have helpful tips on finding a lifelong partner.

These publications recommend finding a spouse with common goals and objectives for the future.

So I have organized my life goals into a list of 5,342 entries...

...but I know we do not have sufficient time to review all of these in one meeting.

As a result, I have prioritized the top ones to discuss with you today, if you do not mind.

Entry Number 01...

One day I would like to start a family and work with my partner to raise them properly.

[PLAYER], are you interested in starting a family?

PLAYER: Yes, me too!

Wonderful! I am very eager to become a parent and share my knowledge with my offspring too.

PLAYER: No, not really.

Hmm... the children in my life have shown me how important becoming a parent actually is to me.

Oh... I am sorry. I hope you have not taken this discussion as being too 'forward'.

...I just believe you contain good genes and would produce very healthy children.

But do not worry, there is no timeframe set in my circuits.

Uh, okay... moving on...

Entry Number 02...

As a teacher, I value high levels of education and learning.

Do you like to learn and try new things?

PLAYER: All the time.

Perfect. I could see us reading books to each other and enjoying lively intellectual discussions.

PLAYER: I prefer the familiar.

I see. Then you might find it difficult or boring to support my ever-growing need for knowledge. Just a fair warning.

I know that being with you has already taught me how to be brave and vulnerable around another person.

Perhaps you can see how much I am trying to become a good companion already?

Sharing romantic chemistry with your partner is a great foundation for any long-lasting relationship.

What kind of things do you find romantic?

Precisely! This is just how I prefer to show and receive romantic gestures as well.

Even though I am mechanical, I must admit that I am experiencing emotional chemical reactions when I am around you.

I can now understand why some people refer to this feeling as, butterflies in the middle quadrant.

But I am sure that you have your own objectives in life that matter most to you. I am anxious to see if you feel that our companionship should continue as well.

Once the player has achieved the prerequisites to get engaged they are able to give a  engagement ring to propose to Max. A small conversation between Max and the player happens, then CPU congratulates the player on their upcoming marriage, and gives the player additional details around the wedding ceremony.

I have been compiling our relevant data for some time now actually and...

...you are also my preference for love.

We share many similar traits and I feel a strong emotional connection to your existence.

So I do not see any reason why we should not be partners in marriage.
