While the player is on various missions, characters will provide different commentary rather than just generic lines based on the player's relationship status.
During the Meet the Crew mission:
Are you really a captain?
PLAYER: Yes
Wow, that's cool.
PLAYER: No
Are you some kind of fake then?
You don't believe in ghosts, do you?
PLAYER: I believe.
Really? This ship makes some creaking noises at night, but I'm too afraid to get up and see what it is.
PLAYER: No way!
Oh me neither! *looks away* I was just asking because sometimes I hear noises at night, but it's probably my imagi... imagination.
My grandpa says it's because this ship is so old and needs some repairs... but he's old and he doesn't make creaking sounds...
During the Visit the Grey Planet mission:
Are you really going down to that Grey Planet?
PLAYER: Yes
I bet you are going to see all kinds of cool rocks and maybe even monsters. Woah... that's cool.
PLAYER: No
Are you going to delligute? I mean del-ugate? You know, that thing you can do as a captain when you boss around other people to do your work.
During the Report Back to Kaida mission:
Isn't it fun to dig around a new planet?
My grandpa will only let me go down to certain planets, but it's always super fun for me!
During the Help Soot mission:
Captain, is that little alien lonely down there?
Maybe I'll draw him a picture.
During the Crew Meeting mission:
Maybe if I stay really quiet, I can sit in the corner for your meeting?
But Grandma said no... and I bet someone would rat me out... *long sigh*
During the Ready for Departure mission:
How come we can't leave yet? How can you stand waiting...
It's like when you have to wait to open presents on your birthday.
You wake up early, but you still have to wait until everyone is up... *huff*
During the Travel Days mission:
I am wearing my lucky bracelet and will wear it until we get there.
I always wear it when we are going on a trip, for good luck.
During the Microbe Seeking mission:
Captain, we studied microbes in school one time...

During the The Unknown Planet mission:

During the Mysterious Artifact mission:
*gives you a gold star sticker*
I get these on my homework when I do a good job so I thought you should have one.
During the Journey Onward mission:
Whoosh, we're off again...
I like to make my own sound effects when the ship bounces and flies through space.
During the Discover a New World mission:
Are you sure you don't need me to go down to the planet with you?
PLAYER: I need you to hold down the fort here.
But that's too easy, everyone already listens to me...
PLAYER: Maybe next time...
That's just something adults say to kids as a fancy way to say no.
During the Fixing the Shellship mission:
Captain, you have to tell me more about that creature you found down there?
Is he nice? Is he funny? I bet he looks funny...
...but I wouldn't say that to his face of course.
During the Desert Relic Piece mission:
Captain, I hope you have a secret hiding place to store that relic piece so it's safe.
I have a secret hiding place, but I'm sorry you can't use mine.
If I told you where it was it wouldn't be a secret anymore, obviously.
During the New Coordinates mission:
Captain, I wandered all over the ship picking up stuff you might be able to use.
During the The Planet Below mission:
WE'RE HERE!! I can hardly wait to see what's down there!
HURRY UP CAPTAIN. I can't wait forever!
During the Fighting Off the Cold mission:
Captain, what are Rumble and Tumble like?
PLAYER: They seem nice.
OK good, then I can be the leader of the group if we ever hang out.
PLAYER: They seem like trouble.
Ohhhhh yeahhhh, I know the type. *sighs*
I'll make sure to keep everyone in line.
During the Ice Relic Piece mission:
Do you know how many ice chunks I counted from the window while orbiting Ice- Iceladus?
PLAYER: 500
*giggles* Higher!

And it would have been even more, but I kind of dozed off for a while.
During the End of the Road? mission:
Have you ever tried skipping while the ship is moving?
But I can't stop doing it either... *skips off*
During the Explorer Badge mission:
I hope you find that thing we're looking for down on that new planet.
Soot is like one of my best friends so I want to make sure everything goes well.
During the Decoding the Message mission:
Those pirates have the coolest names ever!

Yeah, because I will ninja chuck your butt if you mess with me or my friends!

So I've narrowed it down to two pirate names...
During the Lava Relic Piece mission:
Captain, you did it. Well, almost... but you're soooo close.
Soot is really excited too, he keeps waking me up at night to show me his special glow.
During the Master Explorer mission:
Captain, I'm just so happy we put that relic back together again.
PLAYER: Never
Yeah, that's good because I wouldn't want to leave you either.
PLAYER: I don't know...
Quite kidding around, you know you'd be lost without ME.
And... now you're Soot's hero too because he can be with his family again.
*serious face* I don't know what I would do if I got lost and couldn't see my family.
